Are these institutions our enemies?
In my opinion, we seem to have an absurd idea of who are enemies are. Our enemy is not our government. Yet, the Republican parties great leader Ronald Reagan declared, that government is our enemy. He was not the first Republican to make that declaration, just the most famous. Since President Reagan, that has been the battle cry of the Republican party.
Since 1980, the Republicans have held the White House 21 out of 30 years. Their leadership has not fostered civilian respect for government institutions, or taught by example, civic responsibility. Their emphasis has been on winning elections. Based on the Historical fact, that the less the voter turnout, the better the chances for a Republican win. To that end they have used various and any method to gain victory. Their methods have been taken from the dark side of the human character.
Fear, religion, over exaggerated threats against our country, false descriptions of fiscal policies, bigotry, lies in the name of protecting America when they were only seeking to cover the truth Americans would not agree with, corporate political bribery, and magic acts of all kinds to distract Americans from the literal truth and the truth that they were not engaged in the political philosophy they told Americans they stood for.
This is not a one way street, but I am talking about the last three decades, that has set our current conditions and the future for Americans, for decades to come. I am talking about the Republican party, their leaders, and their tactics. I will write another post about Democratic abuses, but they are not similar, or as depraved.
Our mistake, is to have rejected what government can do for us. The crime, is to allow what generations of Americans have spilled blood building, be torn down because of some alluring “free lunch” promise, that we should have known better, was just an appealing delusion. The crime continues today.
If the defense of America is our number one priority, the welfare of the people is number two, or maybe it should be the other way around, for what is defense worth if we are no more than a crumbling country with people of vacant character.
Republican cries of morality and family values were attractive to a good people, but the actual character of the religious leaders and the Republican politicians that linked together, were the worst kind of wolves in sheep’s clothing. They lure with cries of “no new taxes” and allow the natural financial imbalances to threaten the security of our country. They use the voice of fear, that naturally attracts a crowd, and then get that crowd to vote for them claiming only they have the conviction to protect the country.
They claim Democrats hate the military, cannot be trusted to defend America, wrap themselves in the uniform of a soldier, then let those soldiers go into battle without proper protection, or allow soldiers to become forgotten people after their use is no longer needed. Their military machine makes brave soldiers crawl through red tape just to have their ailments taken care of, or linger in rat infested hospitals. Why, because all expenditures are cut to be able to give the “no new tax” pledge, to get reelected.
Services for the people are cut. The military is stretched to thin. The debt is crippling for decades to come. Hospitals closed, but taxes go to build football arenas. Bridges fall down due to neglect, but a Republican Senator has to have millions for a bridge to nowhere.
Now, a new democratic President is blamed for the crippling debt, by those same politicians who built the debt. He tries to bring relief to the people, but Republicans say no. He tried to talk to them, they showed him the door, and then told the public they were not listened to.
No folks, the enemy is not our government, it is the crooks we elected to government. It is the politicians we gave the power to, believing their con job of promises. The enemy are those with a public voice, that speak bigotry and evoke the negativity within us.
The enemy is us. We left our job to those who seek power and riches, not the welfare of us, or our country. We allow the voices of hate to define us by not speaking against them. We do not have the intestinal fortitude to understand, or withstand the mere words of the age old con men, or propagandist. We are to selfish and weak to sacrifice even our money, for the health of our country.
The next time a politician says he won’t raise your taxes, ask him why he wants to bankrupt our country? Ask him why he allows the needy of our society, to go without? Ask him why the programs we have supported for generations, are no longer valid, or necessary? By the way, ask yourselves the same question. You are the voices (votes) that gave them the power to act on your behalf.
As President Obama said two weeks ago, “This is not a time for partisanship, it is a time for citizenship.”
Do we know what being a good citizen means? What does it mean to you? Tearing down the government because you are mad at it? It’s not working right, so lets kill it off? Whose fault is it that government is not working right. Don’t blame Obama. Don’t even blame Bush. Blame ourselves for our poor performance as citizens.
>The Republican Goal has always been to take control of Government and use it to destroy and impoverish the American People. And the abused and cowed supporters of the Republican party, who desperately want to believe Republicans are moral upright christians, flag waving war heroes and fiscally responsible let themselves be played by the Immoral Deviants, Chicken Hawk Cowards and Socialist Kleptocrats which comprise the unscrupulous debauched Modern Republican Party.
>I participated in a telephone town hall meeting last night with my House Member….I asked him what he was going to do about the debt and his response was to lower taxes to stimulate the economy….I then asked him to point to one time in the last 30 years when lowering taxes to stimulate the economy lowered rather than raised the national debt…He could not answer but rather just re stated the idea that lower taxes would stimulate the economy and create jobs. Then when I tried to ask a question about the Supreme Court decision my telephone connection developed static and my question was never heard. All the other questions were about stopping the democrats from destroying medicare, social security, taking away our freedoms, and taxing us to death…One person who had asked a question about would her medicare benefits be reduced by Obamacare and when she found out that our Representative was going to slay the dragon of socialism so that her medicare benefits would not be reduced then this House member became a superhero to those on the call…I have met the enemy and it is us….
>Keep talking Tom, this was a great read!I hope before I leave this earth the rethug party is exposed for what it is, or the republican citizens finally open their closed-minds to what it is they have supported all their lives and revolt!
>Sue: the republicans know what they are and don't give a rats ass. They do as they did to TAO. When confronted with truth, they turn off the microphone. It's happened to me a dozen times just on my Facebook page. Not counting the other situations I was in similar to what TAO talked about. There is no reasoning with these rectionary fools.
>The Democratrs have plenty of problems. They're weak and spineles, for the most part. They refuse to fight for us. Nevertheless, the Republicans are so very horrid, that removinbg them from power must take priority.
>Truth you are right…Dems are spineless and too nice. We don't want to tread on anyones space, we want to be bi-partisan, we want to be accommodating and giving. WHY?? Why can't we be forceful in our convictions? The Supreme court decision will tell us how spineless we really are if our Congress lets this fade away without some legislation to curb its effects on our democracy. What happened to Tao is the norm when it comes to rethugs and their self-righteousness. The pull of good against evil is so strong I don't know what is going to happen to our country. It's scary and the more I think about it the more sick I get.If any self-righteous conservatives read this, YOU are the evil in my comment GOOD AGAINST EVIL, (just incase you didn't recognize yourselves)
>TAO,Be glad you were on the phone. If you were at the town hall meeting, like this Summer at health care town hall meetings, you would have been physically removed, gotten beaten up, or had a gun pulled on you.Sue,RN.You would think that decades of Republican and their total failures would have made them think twice about their course, but they are little to dense and mean to give up. Tom Cat, Your post about the Democrats said it well.
>Tom,I am 6'10" and weigh 275 lbs…I also get annoyed very easily by stupid people…The reason I do not attend public forums is because the STUPIDITY annoys me….People demand lower taxes and want to know why Obama is not doing enough to fight terrorism….
>TAO – I am LMAO at the image of the reaction of a loud mouth tea bagger at some meeting when you decided you had enough and stood up!Too funny! I grew up with a couple of bigs guys (mere shrimps to you, they were both only 6'5")but when little 5'4" me had a potential problem, it was always interesting to see the scales tilt when these two guys showed up.They once offered to tear a boyfriend's head off when he made me cry. Now, back on topic;"the enemy is not our government, it is the crooks we elected to government" and "Blame ourselves for our poor performance as citizens."No truer words have ever been spoken! We have allowed professional politicians to take over our country and make critical decisions concerning ourselves without a second thought. And here we are wallowing in the cesspool that has been created by our own apathy. We must continue to push through the empty, inflammatory rhetoric of the right with facts, figures and historical references until the burden of proof crushes them beneath. Only then will we live in a sane and rational country. We must keep fighting for our country and our lives.
>Rocky,Thank you."Only then will we live in a sane and rational country."You are right. Like a addict, they will unfortunately have to hit bottom they realize it. Like some addicts, they continue to fall off the wagon, or cannot accept the errors of their ways. The Emperor form Star Wars (revised)Only now at the end, young Republican, do you understand.
